Description

WIP Overview of my portrait of David Lynch
All work-in-progress updates will be posted in this image. Favor it to follow the progress.

A graphite portrait of David Lynch, without a doubt one of the most unique & creative person walking this earth. It will be drawn on an A3, and I will try to achieve the same amount of detail as on my Ian Mckellen drawing.

WIP 2
Working on the right eye... slowly but steady, I am progressing. Using my iPad for the details, I think I will be lifting my eye for details to a new level.... I hope so :-)

WIP 3
Making my way to the nose. I have been trying out some new stuff. Using circular techniques, combined with points, and regular shadows for the skin. It looks great I think. At this point the drawings looks a bit wrong. By focusing on the image zoomed in on my iPad, I have been making error by error, even to the point where I missed a reference point by half a centimeter. I hope these errors won't mess it up...

WIP 4
Wanted to finish the nose tonight, but my back is killing me, so I had to stop, like the progress...

WIP 5
I had a great evening drawing session. I was a bit worried about the part around the eye on the left side. The reference is really difficult there. Lots of dark shadows, with very small highlights.... Still I think the result is the best I can do at the moment.... All done using B8, B7,B6,B5 and some lighter ones.... The B8 is such a nice and dark pencil, but it's soo difficult to handle, especially for nice & smooth transitions.... Here is a bigger version of this update [link]

WIP 6
Upper face is almost done... I can start now with the right side under the eye, and right of the nose. Won't take me that long as it's a highlighted area... so prob next week I can start with the gruesome lower part and mouth, that's almost completely in shadows :-)

WIP 7
Upper face is done now. Have been adding more shadows, details & highlights, and started on the lower part. I have applied the first 2 layers. I always start with an H2 layer, that I blend using a tissue. Then the second layer is done using a B pencil.

WIP 8
So, only one WIP to go after his one. Face is almost completed, just the mouth, and more detailing on the chin, probably will be able to finish it this week, if I find the time. Then the hair, which I won't show in WIP... so hopefully next week this one is finished.

WIP 9
Last WIP of this image. It's almost done... and will probably be finished next week. It has been a though ride, but I am very satisfied with this drawing. The intensity of the dark & white areas are really good I think, and it's again a step closer to realism.....
